Welcome

Welcome to The Biblio-Files, the newest book blog on the Internet. I'm your host, Laura, an avid reader and writer trying my hand at book reviewing. Please bear with me as I get the blog up and going this month.

My Genres

Like many bibliophiles, I sometimes say that I read everything, but that's not true. There are some genres I couldn't be paid to read, like Romance and Christian Fiction. There are the genres that I'm not usually interested in, but a recommendation from a friend can change that. The books I love are usually in one (or more) of the following genres:

Historical Fiction
I've always enjoyed reading about historical events through the eyes of fictional characters. Most of my historical fiction reads also fall into the International Fiction category.

International Fiction (non-US)
I'm a 35-year old white American woman who hasn't traveled much. Anything I can learn about different cultures, I do. I try to find non-American authors whenever possible, in the interest of hearing an authentic cultural voice.

Dystopian/Post-Apocalyptic
The world's going to hell in a hand basket, so I may as well be somewhat prepared.

Re-Imagined Fairy Tales
I don't know if this is an actual genre or just a sub-genre of Fantasy. Fairy tales are folklore and I fell in love with folklore in college.

Young Adult
I like YA books because they're usually quick reads because there's more action than exposition. My YA picks usually fall into one of my other genres.

While I occasionally read Science Fiction, I'm incredibly picky about what I'll read.

I always enjoy reading any book that addresses Social Justice Issues.
