Every so often I start a book that I can't bring myself to finish.
Dreaming in Cuban by Cristina Garcia
I really wanted to like this book because I really wanted to read a book about Cuba. But the characters were just too weird for me. Everyone was crazy, and that's not what I wanted my first Cuban book to represent.
The Wicked City by Beatriz Williams
This book sounded so good but there were two major inconsistencies in the first 50 pages so I had to put it down.
No One is Coming to Save Us by Stephanie Powell Watts
I don't know what it was about this book, I just couldn't get into it. I may try again since I heard great thing about it and was excited to read it.
The Magdalen Girls by V.S. Alexander
I really wanted to like this book but the female narrators were just a little too sexist in the self-hating kind of way for me to enjoy or really believe the story. This was the mid-20th century, not the Middle Ages.
Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel
This book has been on my list for years so the Great American Read got me to finally pick it up. However, I wasn't a fan of the writing style so I couldn't really get into it.
The Intuitionist by Colson Whitehead
Another book I picked up because of the GAR, I loved The Underground Railroad so I was looking forward to reading this. It started out great but it just kept getting weirder and I was only reading a page or two at a time so I gave up just before making it halfway through the book.
